FAQs

Your questions, answered

Everything you need to know about assessment, costs and ongoing ADHD care with Focus Gently.

Getting started

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with us without a referral. With your consent, we'll contact your GP so they know about your care.

Not sure if it's ADHD? Where should I start?

Take our free 2-minute ADHD screener. It uses questions from the World Health Organization's Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale and shows whether a full assessment could be worth exploring. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

Who carries out my assessment?

Your full adult ADHD assessment is carried out by video with a GMC-registered psychiatrist. After diagnosis, your ongoing care is led by an NMC-registered independent prescriber.

What happens before my assessment?

You'll complete a secure pre-assessment questionnaire covering your medical history, heart health screening and baseline observations (blood pressure, pulse, height and weight). We'll also ask you to upload photo ID and your Summary Care Record.

I already have an ADHD diagnosis. Can you help?

Yes. If you were diagnosed elsewhere and need a new prescriber, you may not need another assessment. Send us your existing report and we'll review it for free, and you can book a free 15-minute discovery call. If your report meets our requirements, you can join our ongoing care plan directly.

Costs

How much does it cost?

The ADHD assessment is a one-off fee of £750. If you're diagnosed and choose to start treatment, ongoing care is £89 a month. Your medication is dispensed and charged separately by our partner pharmacy.

What's included in the £89 monthly plan?
  • A safety assessment before you start medication
  • Starting medication and every dose adjustment during titration
  • All reviews and monitoring, with no per-appointment charges
  • Prescriptions, when clinically appropriate
  • An annual review and a yearly shared care request to your GP
Is there a joining fee or minimum term?

No. There's no joining fee and no minimum term, and you can cancel any time.

Treatment and medication

What do I need before starting medication?

We check your heart health and baseline observations first. You'll also need a home blood pressure monitor, as you'll record your blood pressure and pulse during titration. For some medicines, we may need blood tests or an ECG before we can prescribe.

How do I get my medication?

We send your prescription to our partner pharmacy, which dispenses it and sends it to you by tracked delivery. Most ADHD medicines are controlled drugs, so we can't give you a paper prescription to take to a local pharmacy. The pharmacy charges you directly for the medication.

What medication do you prescribe?

We prescribe ADHD medication only, and choose it with you based on your assessment, health and preferences. Other medicines, such as antidepressants or heart medication, stay with your GP or another specialist.

Will my GP take over my prescribing?

Each year, we send your GP a shared care request asking them to take over prescribing. Whether to agree is your GP's decision. If they do, you can cancel your monthly plan once the handover is complete.

Safety and support

Is Focus Gently regulated?

Yes. Focus Gently is a trading name of Acute Care Direct Ltd, which is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our clinicians are registered with the GMC or NMC.

What if I have side effects or high blood pressure?

Contact us before your next dose if your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher, or your pulse is 100 or higher. If you have chest pain, a fainting episode or any other emergency, call 999 straight away.

How do I contact the clinic?

Email clinical@acutecaredirectltd.com. The clinic is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We are not an emergency service. If you need urgent help, call NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
