What to Expect from a Private ADHD Assessment (Step-by-Step Guide)
Thinking about seeking a private ADHD assessment but unsure what’s involved? You're not alone. Whether you're exploring this route due to long NHS wait times or want a more flexible, person-centred experience, understanding the assessment process can help you take the next step with confidence.
Why Go Private for ADHD Diagnosis?
In the UK, private ADHD services have become a vital alternative due to:
NHS waiting lists exceeding 18 months
Limited adult ADHD provision in many areas
Delays in accessing medication post-diagnosis
Private services—especially those run by qualified nurse prescribers—can offer assessments within weeks, not years.
The Private ADHD Assessment Process (Step-by-Step)
Here’s exactly what you can expect with our upcoming remote ADHD service:
1. Pre-Assessment Screening
After expressing interest, you’ll be invited to complete:
ADHD screening questionnaires (e.g. ASRS, SNAP)
Basic medical history and medication checks
Consent and ID verification
This ensures clinical appropriateness and streamlines the diagnostic process.
2. 90-Minute Structured Video Consultation
Led by an ADHD nurse prescriber, this session includes:
Full developmental and symptom history
Use of validated tools (e.g. DIVA-5)
Review of co-occurring mental health or neurodivergent traits
Functioning across settings (e.g. work, home, school)
3. Diagnostic Report
Post-assessment, you’ll receive a formal report outlining:
Diagnosis (if applicable)
Symptom presentation and clinical rationale
Recommendations for treatment
Supporting documentation for workplace/academic needs
4. Initial Prescription & Titration Plan
If appropriate, the prescriber will:
Issue an initial private prescription
Create a titration schedule to find your optimal dose
Monitor side effects and therapeutic response
All medications prescribed align with NICE guidelines.
5. Follow-Up Consultation
Within 3–5 weeks, you’ll attend a review appointment to:
Adjust medication dose (if needed)
Review progress
Discuss next steps or repeat prescribing options

We also offer:
Repeat prescriptions (£30 per issue)
Letters for GPs, universities, or employers (from £35)
