The wait doesn’t have to be years.
The real cost of an ADHD assessment isn’t the fee — it’s another year of not knowing. Here’s the honest comparison.
- × No firm date — the timeline is out of your hands
- × Referral usually needed before you can even join the queue
- × Another year of masking, missed deadlines and self-doubt
- ✓ Book directly — no GP referral required
- ✓ Seen remotely, wherever you are in the UK
- ✓ A clear written report and a plan for what comes next
A calmer route to answers.

Questions people ask first
Why pay when I could wait for the NHS?
You absolutely can wait — and for some people that’s the right call. But NHS adult ADHD assessment waits often run from many months to several years, with no fixed date. A private assessment buys certainty and speed: a specialist assessment from home, with a written report and a plan at the end. For many people, the cost of another year of not knowing is the higher one.
Is the screener a diagnosis?
No. It’s a validated self-report screening tool that indicates whether a full assessment is likely to be worthwhile. It cannot diagnose ADHD — only a comprehensive clinical assessment can do that.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can come to us directly — there’s no need to be referred first.
Who carries out the assessment?
Assessments are carried out by a Nurse Independent Prescriber, with clinical oversight and governance from a consultant psychiatrist who advises on complex cases and supports our clinical standards. Focus Gently is registered with the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and social care in England.
Is everything done remotely?
Yes. The screener, assessment and your report are all handled remotely, so you can be seen from home wherever you are in the UK.
What happens after my assessment?
You receive a clear clinical outcome and a written report you keep, with recommendations and guidance on what to consider next. We’ll talk you through your options at that point.
